What do FT, PT & DT have in common ?

Apart from self care, time management is a close second when it comes to being successful.

The road to success.
The road to success.

Some of the most successful people I know, apply these three things in their daily lives.
FT = Fun Time
PT = Productive Time
DT = Domestic Time
And together they develop a good SCT (Self Care Time) lifestyle.

It is not too important in what order these are actioned, but a matter of personal choice.  One may feel that things at home, around the house need to be done first, followed by some fun time and then on to productive time.

Now what would you call ‘Fun Time’?
Fun is doing something that you really enjoy, adding value to your life. You really appreciate doing it and something that gets your engine revving again.
It must, above all else, lift your spirits and give you a positive emotional experience.

‘Productive Time’ or some call it proactive time, making things happen?
But it is not the quantity of what one is doing during a given period of time, but the quality which generates the most change or reaction.
Most people chill out after some fun time, by going for a walk before engaging in the productive part of their day.
Tip – Manage yourself first by developing & selecting sound habits.

Domestic Time, or what some refer to as ‘Drudge Time’?
Do you reach that time of the day when you sigh with relief and collapse into a chair, wishing fervently, that someone would bring you a cup of tea?
But this period of time is important time. It is the glue that holds the rest of the day’s time together.
It is like ‘check-in’ time for the day’s flight. Well planned activities will ensure that you get to the next stage well rested & raring to go.
Tip – put some clothes on before rushing out to fetch the morning newspaper !

Finally, I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject. Do You have a well oiled time machine?

The GrandPa called ‘BoomPa’?

Some months ago, while talking on Facebook about how I missed South Africa and specifically my daughter & her family, something very strange yet wondrous took place.
No, it was not the 8th wonder of the world, but something just as powerful.

Some people got together to encourage me to jump on a plane and visit. Led by my niece, a close friend and a host of supporters, they started a collection. Crazy lot!

To tell the truth, at first I was overwhelmed and more than a  little embarrassed. I just could not get my head around that it was fast becoming the time of simply boarding a plane and getting there?

Well, after much arm twisting and lots of frantic planning, the 7th September soon arrived and I was winging my way to Johannesburg. I think I bored a lot of fellow passengers with my talk of this exciting trip. So what, Grandfathers are suppose to do this , right? Right!

Frantic planning?
There were 3 main goals. One, get to the  Port Shepstone High School Reunion on the 10th September.
Two, Visit & spend time with Grandsons in Pringle Bay and Three, observe & absorb as much of South Africa as possible during the period that I was there.
Did I achieve all I wanted too in 25 days? I believe so. (O.K. there were a few grumpy moments along the way).

The Saturday started with a tour of the school, with the current Headmaster, Mr. Peter Jenkins, doing a wonderful running commentary of the facilities & achievements. I spent a bit of time with him, discussing the school and what the future holds for the students. Ended up being left behind by the rest & he kindly drove me through to the Port Shepstone Country Club, where lunch had been organised.

During my visit to Port Shepstone, my accommodation was provided by http://www.lomboklodge.co.za/ B&B in SeaPark.
Quite divine.

Then Back to Durban & on to Cape Town, to meet & greet some family members.
One of the co-conspirators of this trip, Cathy was on hand to spoil me rotten, with trips around the city and a get together at http://www.piratessteakhouse.co.za

in Hout Bay I stayed at http://www.tarragona.co.za/

Other than Pringle Bay, this would be a grand place to live. Has grown somewhat since the Republic of Hout Bay days?
But sadly, Cathy’s limo service came to an end when she delivered me to the Plant (Vegan) Restaurant.

And then I moved into Pringle Bay to be more central.
Stayed the remaining 2 weeks at the ‘Pringle Mingle’

My, did those two weeks fly by. Apart from the wonderful time spent with my family, I also met some amazing people in Pringle Bay. Far too many to mention all here.

Many photos were taken. Here are one or three, with the rest found on Facebook.

Soon, it was time to take me back to Cape Town & on to the airport for my connecting flight to Johannesburg and on to London.
One last look at the family in the Company Gardens in Cape Town, with Table mountain looking down.

Euro2016 football and EU Referendum.

The two most watched & followed topics at the moment? Possibly.

Let’s look at the opinions on the football.
From a wide selection of family, friends & total strangers asked, the following three answers were the most common.
(1) England is going to win;
(2) England is going to loose;
(3) I think their shoes (boots?) are so colourful.

Now looking at the EU voting.
(1) UK is going to win;
(2) UK
is going to loose;
(3) I think their mothers dress them funny.

Let it be noted, that there was a 3% undecided in both cases.
The reason why they were undecided?
” What is EU2016? I don’t follow sport”
“What is EU Referendum? I don’t follow politics”

OF course there are two guaranteed winners
The beverage industry & the pharmaceutical industry.
Win or loose, both parties will be hung over the next day
and the country will grind to a halt. No one will feel
like going to work.
More illegals will stream in to fill the jobs that the revellers
do not want to do.
And, if you had shares in the beverage & pharmaceutical industries, you will make a lot of money.

What ever revs your engine, don’t forget to vote.
There are still many countries that still don’t have that privilege?

In my previous life.

In my previous life, I was a hunter gatherer, with a flowing red cape, able to jump tall buildings in a single bound, Nothing was impossible for me, for I was the one.

A husband, father & friend, a great achiever and above all, the provider of wondrous things.

That seems like a life time ago, in some distant galaxy, the memories of which are disappearing into the mist of each passing year & with that passing comes a certain nostalgia, for when grasping at the past, the very fact of a longing to return, as if in a time machine, to a former time or place in one’s life, to one’s place of birth & to one’s family and friends, becomes a struggle.

However, there is a certain resilience in that struggle, for each day has now become a blessing, one to strive to participate in a positive manner & more often than not, with a playful look at what has become my new life.

One takes on new challenges like pretending to be a gardener & learning new skills, of being a writer now & not some fearsome warrior in the saddle of some noble steed, off to fight & slay the dragons of the world.
Now I have become more like a Don Quixote, tilting at the windmills of my mind.
